Hi Ya'll,

I very much enjoy looking at pictures. Whether it’s photographs, paintings, drawings, collages or something else. They don’t need to be beautifully made. On the contrary, pictures that are a bit odd, perhaps even strange or mysterious, pictures that make you curious, attract me a lot. I was, therefore, thrilled when I stumbled upon the Public Domain Image Archive project. It’s a 10,000+ hand-picked collection of historically rooted images where you’ll find all sorts of interesting pictures. Like this one, for example; A Map of the Open Country of Woman's Heart:

A Map of the Open Country of Woman's Heart, Exhibiting its internal communications, and the facilities and dangers to Travellers therein. By a Lady, D.W. Kelog & Co.

Or how about this:

Now I'm in the kitchen

In her short movie Now I’m in the Kitchen, the US-based Chinese animator Yana Pan portrays the cooking of a meal and all the memories it stirs up of her mother, some joyful, some more complicated.

I’m impressed by how many layers of feelings Pan presents in this short and simple story. And how she succeeds in making you, the viewer, reflect on your own personal memories - memories that you often don’t spend much time thinking about but which, nonetheless, are deeply rooted inside of you and a big part of who you are.

Thanks for reading!

Until next time - Majken xx
