From the desk of Majken Zein Sorensen

Hi there,

I discovered this short video of the author, Elif Shafak, sharing her thoughts on a quote from the late author, Toni Morrison.

“Sometimes I feel so angry. Then I sit down at my desk, and I write,” Morrison said.

Shafak:

“There is so much happening, right?

Not only the injustices that we see outside, but the repetitiveness of it.

As if we have learned nothing from history.

However.

Can we take our anxiety and turn it into music?

Can we take our anger and turn it into activism?

Can we take our depression and turn it into community work?

How can we transform all these troubling and intense emotions into something much more positive and constructive, not only for ourselves as individuals but also for our communities, for our societies and for humanity?”

Then all kinds of magic can happen

“I think that a good story is one that says, in many different levels, we’re both human beings, we’re in this crazy situation called life that we don’t really understand, can we put our heads together and confer about it a little bit at a very high non-bullshitty level. Then all kinds of magic can happen.” - George Saunders.

In this short video, the US writer, George Saunders, "deconstructs what he believes makes for an effective story. This includes the importance of conversing with your characters, the pitfalls of fixing your intentions in place, and why good storytelling is a bit like being in love."

Walk with Peace

Go for a walk with the intention: to walk with Peace.

You can do it anywhere, try different locations.

Walk for 15-20 minutes, and see how it is to do this.

You can also stand in a place in Nature, on a street corner etc. and stand here with Peace.

This is a great practice to do regularly.

Notice how it is different and what you experience at the different times.

Try to not have any expectations.
